Yes, sounds like a perfect plan. But how many times do we get all the way to December without checking things off our September “to do list”?
Here are some simple steps to help keep you on track:
Have consistent funds/appeals at different times of year, be a little predictable. Trust me, your constituents/prospects/parishioners/parents/students get accustomed to your fundraising calendar. Over time they will find a way to fit your request for support into their budget. May not for every appeal you send over the year, but if they are invested and interested in what you offer, they will find a way to give at least annually.
Stay 2 months ahead of reality. You need this as a hard deadline to make sure you get things out on time.
Once your appeal comes to an end, make notes for changes and recommendations for next year. It will help you stick to your plan in number 1 and goal in number 2.
There’s room for change. Of course, your calendar is like a budget, a tool for planning. If you need to adjust or want to evaluate trying something new, go for it! But try to keep your regular schedule as consistent as possible.
If this seems daunting, not to worry. Your Spark Alumni team has a calendar for you to use as a starting point. With your input, it will be completely customized to fit into your school calendar.
